Another Working Fire in Waldorf
By Firefighter Thad Dent
February 7, 2010
On Sunday Feb. 7th, 2010 at 1:28 am the Hughesville Volunteers were alerted to 2215 Crain Highway, Waldorf Thrift Store for the reported working fire and building collapse. Engine 22 (McPherson) responded with six personnel. While en-route communication advised the responding units that Prince George's County Battalion Chief 7 was on scene with a partial collapse of the building and confirmed working fire. Engine 22 arrived and laid 800' of Dual 3" lines from Baden Engine 362 to the scene, Once the lines had been laid Engine 22 was instructed to supply PG Truck 25 and advance a protective hose line to protect the "Delta" exposure. Through heavy snow and ice the crew from Engine 22 deployed a 200' 2-1/2" "Blitz Line" to the Alpha Delta corner and set up to protect the exposure. At 2:22 am a second alarm was sounded bringing Engine 23 (Eckstein) to the scene with three personnel. Engine 23 arrived and was instructed to stage at their apparatus in the northbound lanes of Route 301, and was later placed in service. At the height of the fire Engine 22 was supplying Truck 25 through dual 3" lines, operating a Blitz line and Deck Gun. After the majority of the fire was knocked down, Engine 22's crew advanced 200' of 1-3/4 hose to side "Alpha" and began "mopping up" the hot spots. Engine 22 operated on scene for over four and a half hours before being placed in service. Engine 22's crew would like to thank the crews from Engines 101, 123 and 362 for helping us pick up our line.
